AWFC Data and Performance Lead
An excellent opportunity to lead our Medical and Sports Science provision and utilise data-informed decision making to meet our aim of maximising sporting performance and mitigating injury risk.
The Role
We are looking for a Data and Performance Lead for AWFC to utilise their strategic expertise and ensure we're making data-driven decisions that will level up our Medical and Sports provision across our multidisciplinary team, leveraging vital insights that will allow us to meet our ultimate aim of maximising sporting performance and mitigating injury risk. You'll play a vital role in ensuring that we use and understand the full breadth of data and insight that's available to us, allowing us to make data-driven decisions to have a positive impact on player welfare, education and health screening.
In this exciting role, you'll pioneer the development of detailed, data-informed individual player profiles that assess athletic potential and positional demands at key stages of the season, identifying performance strengths and development areas. You will enable the team to provide daily training reports to Coaches, and you'll lean on your data analysis expertise to deliver real-time data analysis (post training and matches) as well as to provide data informed phase reports.
Championing a data-driven approach, you'll manage, deliver and coordinate all aspects of the Medical and Sports Science provision across our multidisciplinary team, to include, Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning and Nutrition. You'll be entrusted with a broad range of vital responsibilities such as pre-signing medical risk/playing assessment, injury prevention and rehabilitation, physiology, biomechanics, athletes' recovery, sports technology, anthropometry, injury audit, and the ongoing development of the department.

Your day-to-day
- Champion the use of data across the department - you'll drive the development of detailed, data-informed individual player profiles (100%) that assess athletic potential and positional demands at key stages of the season, identifying performance strengths and development areas
- Implement the provision of data-driven insightful training reports - you will instil advanced level data-driven decision making ability within the team, enabling them to provide daily training reports that are fed back during the Coaches training performance meeting, with maximal accuracy and clarity, offering real-time data analysis (post training and match) as well as, assertive decisions on player training during sessions
- Lay foundations for in-depth data informed phase reports - you will design and execute a winning methodology for us to create data informed phase reports to management that provide feedback and predictive insights on future performance throughout the season to Coaches, Medical and Technical teams
- Oversee our Sports Science department - you'll passionately manage and monitor the quality of all sports science related provision across a multidisciplinary team, and you will set clear standards and put action plans in place as required to reach exceptional standards of best practice, incorporating our wider club ethos, values, protocols and practices in our Sports Science and Medicine department
- Create and implement crucial systems and methodologies - you'll take pride in creating and implementing medical-related systems and methodologies to evaluate the success of the department in relation to our video and mission
- Lead and inspire a dedicated team - you'll lead our Sports Science and Strength and Conditioning teams on all aspects of player welfare, education, and health screening, with a special interest in injury prevention and the ultimate aim of maximising player availability and you will relish the opportunity to coach and motivate a diverse range of direct reports across multiple disciplines
- Maintain a forward-thinking approach - you'll use initiative and industry knowledge to incorporate and explore new methods, with a view to maximising and harnessing our use of facilities to facilitate high-performance, and you will collaborate with colleagues across our club to ensure that we're at the forefront of the latest developments within elite sports science and medicine
- Build a culture of continuous improvement - you'll strive to create an ever evolving department and drive high performance, overseeing Continuous Professional Development pathways and development of staff, ensuring cohesion across our club's medical and performance practices, in line with the requirements of the AWFC Head Coach and Head of Women’s Football
- Uphold team compliance - you will take responsibility for maintaining detailed records for the department in accordance with GDPR, other relevant legislation, policies and procures and you'll ensure all Performance colleagues are compliant in regards to UEFA and WSL requirements, including the attendance at all relevant meetings
- Promote important standards and policies - you'll recognise the need to integrate our Code of Conduct into day-to-day activities and you will follow our Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Equal Opportunity procedures, adhering to a strict code of confidentiality in respect of any information relating to our club and its operation
What we are looking for
- Extensive experience working with elite athletes - you're proud of your verifiable record of successfully working with elite footballers and/or elite athletes domestically and internationally, providing physiotherapy and strength and conditioning services to improve performance, prevent injuries and ensure timely recoveries
- Strategic mindset - you come with demonstrable experience of working at a highly strategic level, regularly using data and insights to drive decision making
- Passion for Women's football - you're excited to leverage your enthusiasm for the Women's game and make a lasting contribute to its growth, and you ideally have some knowledge and experience of WSL and UEFA rules and regulations
- Credible expertise - you've got a MSc (Hons) in Sport Science and ideally accreditation with British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, as well as appropriate accreditation as a Strength and Conditioning Coach (BASES or UKSCA)
- First Aid qualification - you have a First Aid qualification from FA ATMMiF or equivalent/higher qualification and you have an understanding of Health and Safety and its application to a sporting environment
