Life at Arsenal For Ashlee
Why did you want to work with us at Arsenal and how did you apply/find your role?
I have always had a strong interest in working in a high-profile professional environment and Arsenal stood out to me right away. The club has a world-class reputation, not just in football but in how it runs its operations behind the scenes. I saw an opportunity to be part of something bigger than just a standard security job - it’s about protecting a venue that means a lot to so many people. I am also a big Arsenal fan so that was just a bonus.
I initially joined as a Night Security Guard after applying through LinkedIn. From day one, I was focused on doing the job to the best of my ability, and with a little encouragement, I jumped at the opportunity. I applied, went through the process, and was proud to step
into the role.
Tell us what a typical day looks like in your role?
As a Night Security Supervisor at Arsenal, my typical shift starts with a handover from the Day team. I review any incidents, maintenance notes, or special instructions so I know what to focus on during the night.
I then brief the Night team, assign patrol areas, and make sure everyone’s clear on their responsibilities. From there, the night runs on regular patrols, constant monitoring of CCTV, and ensuring all parts of the stadium are secure -including hospitality suites, team areas, offices and loading bays etc.
I stay in regular contact with my team throughout the night, check that patrols are being carried out correctly and help resolve any issues that come up - whether that’s a door fault, an alarm trigger, or and unexpected situation around the stadium perimeter.
What's your favourite thing about your role?
My favourite thing about my role is being part of something bigger - helping to keep the stadium safe so that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. There’s a real sense of teamwork, even during night shifts, because we all share the same goal: supporting the club’s success both on and off the pitch. I also love being part of a place that means so much to so many people. As someone who’s passionate about the club, it’s a privilege to play a role - even a quiet one - in maintaining the high standards Arsenal is known for.
What are the three main skills needed to be a Security Shift Supervisor at Arsenal?
Strong communication - clear communication is essential, especially during the night shift when the team is smaller and situations may arise that require quick, confident direction. A Night Supervisor needs to be able to pass on important information, lead calmly, and ensure everyone is on the same page.
Timekeeping & Reliability - punctuality and consistency are vital. As a Supervisor, you set the standard for the team, so being dependable helps keep operations smooth and ensure the stadium is secure throughout the night.
Situation Awareness and Dedication - you need to stay alert and focused throughout the shift, making sure all checks are done properly, and incidents are managed effectively. Dedication to the role and to the safety of the venue shows in how seriously you take each
task - even the routine ones.
In terms of essentials, having an SIA licence, CCTV licence and First Aid at work is key, along with any relevant security of leadership training. But just as important are soft skills like calm decision-making, team support, and a genuine passion for the club, which really stand out in interviews and on the job.
Advice for someone wanting to be a Security Shift Supervisor at Arsenal?
My advice would be taking the role seriously and see it as more than just a job - you're part of keeping a world-class stadium safe and secure. Show that you’re reliable, willing to learn and can stay calm under pressure. Leadership isn’t just about giving instruction; it’s about setting the tone for your team, especially on quieter night shifts.
I’d recommend doing an SIA Supervisors of Door Supervisors course if you haven’t already, and consider online courses in Conflict Management Leadership skills, or Health & Safety.
If you were to describe the Arsenal working culture in 3 words, what would they be?
Passionate, Fast-paced, Team-driven.
