Life at Arsenal For George
Why did you want to work with us at Arsenal and how did you apply/find your role?
In a relatively new discipline, Arsenal have always been major pioneers in analysis, being ahead of the curve with deptarment structure, infrastructure, investment in technology and the value of analysis in the coaching process. This, alongside being one of the highest esteemed academies in the world made it an extremely desirable proposition to be a part of. I can’t remember if I first saw this role on the website directly or through LinkedIn, as a few people I know in the industry had shared the role. It definitely felt the right time for me to throw my hat in the ring as I wanted to test myself at a bigger organisation and grow further with highly skilled practitioners.
Tell us what a typical day looks like in your role?
Unfortunately, the cliché answer and the beauty of this role is that there is no typical day, so it always keeps you on your toes! The main remit as a Football Analyst at Arsenal though is to ensure that we are positively impacting individuals player development, team performance and decision-making through video and data. As Lead Academy Football Analyst, I have 2 main components to my role, I manage the analysis provision from U9-21s, where we have a team of excellent Academy Football Analysts for various age groups, and I focus predominantly on developing the U21 analysis programme whilst being an integral part of the U21 MDT.
What's your favourite thing about your role?
We watch a lot of football, which can be in the form of opposition, training or our own game footage. Watching the amount of football that we do, alongside delving into the data, it gives us a deeper, wider understanding of industry tactical strengths/weaknesses and technical developments with our own players. Alongside watching loads of football, I (as well as all academy staff) get huge fulfilment from helping young players push themselves to their absolute potential and giving every single player a chance to have careers in an industry that changes lives and positively impacts so many people!
What are the three main skills needed to be an Lead Academy Football Analyst at Arsenal?
