Sean's tale of tennis, to Business Development!
What does your job at Arsenal involve?
As the Business Development Lead, I am responsible for acquiring the club’s global and regional sponsorship partners, leading the club’s Web3 strategy and exploring new revenue streams and business development opportunities.
How did you get into working in Partnership & Business Development?
When I joined Arsenal, I started in the Premium Sales team selling Club Level season tickets, executive boxes and the matchday hospitality inventory. After 3 years at the club and during the pandemic (when matches were played behind closed doors with no tickets to sell), I was given the opportunity to work on a partnership development project. I really enjoyed the role, formed a strong relationship with the Head of Partnership Development which led to being offered a permanent position in the team.
Is Arsenal your first job in sport, if not, what industry did you work in previously?
Although working for Arsenal is my first job in the business side of sport, I was previously a professional a tennis player for 10 years. When I retired from playing tennis, I realised I didn’t have the business experience or qualifications to work for a brand like Arsenal. I decided to work in recruitment to build my business development and sales skills, which enabled me to secure my role in the Premium Sales team.
Tell us about any secret perks of working at Arsenal?!
Over my time at Arsenal I’ve been fortunate enough to attend many matches including home games, away games and cup finals. I have attended other sporting events and enjoyed several team socials. Although visiting the training ground and speaking with Arsene Wenger was a personal highlight.
And finally…. Why Arsenal?!
All of the above!
